2018 Holstein Princess

Hello Dairy Friends!

I am Amanda Engelken, your 2018 Iowa Holstein Princess! I was excited to be crowned the ambassador of the Holstein breed for Iowa in February along with Cynthia Hamlett. I am the 18 year old daughter of Tom and Cherrie Engelken. I have two sisters, Nicole and Amber. My family and I milk 220 Holsteins with a few srossbreds, Ayrshires, and Brown Swiss just outside of Earlville. My sister, Nicole, also served as the 2013 Iowa Holstein Princess. We also raise our own replacement heifers and grow corn, hay, and oats.

I have been very involved in 4H and FFA. Through 4H, I have participated in dairy quiz bowl and dairy judging. In dairy judging, I was a part of the 2015 NAILE champion team along with Cole Kruse, Regan Demmer, and Cynthia. In FFA, I have had multiple opportunities to succeed including participating in the National Dairy Judging CDE.

As Iowa Holstein Princess, I am excited connect with all of you fellow enthusiasts. I can’t wait to help out whenever I can by handing out ribbons and talking to anyone I can about the dairy industry.

While I haven’t been active in Iowa Holstein Association, I am excited to jump right in and get to know all of you! If you need me for anything, don’t be afraid to email me at or call me at 563-920-0488.

Hope to see you soon,
Amanda Engelken

Hello Holstein Lovers,

My name is Cynthia Hamlett, and I am your current Iowa Holstein Princess Alternate. I am the 19 year old daughter of Mark and Jennifer Hamlett. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers, and we live just north of Aurora where we milk around 60 registered Holsteins. I recently finished my first year at Iowa State University where I am majoring in Agriculture and Society with a minor in Animal Science. Currently, I am the intern at AMPI at the Arlington Division. I will be learning a new side of things with production after taking milk to the plant.

I was active in high school through 4-H, FFA, and the Fayette County Dairy Promotion. After going to college, I jumped right in and joined the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow Club and the Dairy Science Club. Through the Iowa Junior Holstein Association, I was elected vice president during our Junior Convention in December. These positions and groups allow me to communicate and spread the good knowledge with individuals all around.

After being crowned at the end of February, I helped at the Iowa Holstein Spring Sale by handing out sale slips. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of new faces and interact with people in our industry. I look forward to all of the upcoming events this summer. If you would like to contact me for anything, my number is 563-608-9737 and my email is

Best regards,
Cynthia Hamlett
