Iowa Holstein Auxiliary Scholarship
The Iowa Holstein Auxiliary will be awarding up to three scholarships this year to eligible recipients. Applicant must be a member of the Iowa Junior Holstein Association at the time of application. Applicant must be currently attending a four-year college or a one or two-year tech school or a short course program and not majoring in Dairy Science. Previous scholarship winners are not eligible. 2017 Iowa Holstein Auxiliary Scholarship Winner
Alyssa Dougherty is currently a freshman at Iowa State University. Alyssa is the daughter of Ron and Julie Dougherty of Epworth. She has represented Iowa at the National Junior Holstein Convention in dairy jeopardy, dairy bowl and was a member of the Champion Junior Dairy Bowl Team. She has served as the Iowa Junior Holstein Association Treasurer and Secretary.

While in high school, she was very active in track, cross country, basketball, student council, National Honor Society, and Future Business Leaders of America, just to name a few of her activities.

At Iowa State, Alyssa is currently Maple - Young Hall Secretary, and is a member of the Iowa State University First-Year Honors Program and is involved in SHOP - Students Helping Our Peers Food Pantry, Student Dietetic Association, Hopeful Africa and Salt Company.
Alyssa’s goals include graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University. Following the completion of a dietetic internship, she plans to take the national exam to become a registered dietitian. Then Alyssa would like to seek employment with the World Food Prize Foundation, a global nonprofit, or a research facility studying malnutrition. Alyssa says, “My life goal is to improve the quality of life by promoting a healthy, nutritious lifestyle.”
